The San Luis Valley Animal Welfare Society is in the San Luis Valley of Colorado, near Forbes Ranch
(in the distant hills), 4 miles from the Town of San Luis, Colorado.​ The shelter consists of a total of 17,000 sq ft. in five high-quality, insulated, metal buildings (Once the Battle Mt. Gold Mine Complex). The nearest building in the above photo is our 2,900-square-foot Kennel Building. The 2nd building contains the office and living quarters of our on-site shelter manager.
One of 2 kennel rooms with some of our high-tech Mason Kennels (purchased with an Animal Assistance Foundation Grant). The floors of these kennels are warm, comfortable fiber glass (not cold damp concrete). Each kennel has its own drain and is thoroughly sanitized daily to control disease and keep animals healthy.
Large Priefert gravel based 10' x 10' dog runs located outside the kennel building. Each run has a heavily insulated
and heated doghouse (built with funds from the Animal Assistance Foundation grant).
Dogs spend each day running free and socializing in small groups in our very large dog parks adjacent to the kennel building.
DONATIONS
Well over 12,000 homeless animals have been rescued and adopted and now have loving homes and good lives thanks to donations. All the people who run our organization are volunteers. Every penny of your donation goes to rescuing, sheltering, and adopting out homeless animals. We have 1 employee who cleans and and cares for rescued animals at our shelter. Rescues and adoptions are done by volunteers. No money goes to administrator salaries.
VOLUNTEER
EVERY SATURDAY, we hold pet adoptions in Colorado Springs from 11 AM to 3 PM, at Petco or PetSmart where many of the pets (but never quite enough) will begin their next chapter with their loving new owners. We can use help feeding, watering, and caring for animals.
